London-Based Punk Rock Band
The Blind Luck Band are a London based punk rock band that has started to attract a following around England. In a lot of ways they are a throwback to the early days of punk, they are a group that brings more energy than actual skill to their shows. Nevertheless this makes for some very entertaining live performances and has attracted them a pretty loyal following from a group of hardcore fans.
The Blind Luck Band got its start when a couple of friends John Vanderbilt and Jonas Bernaerts decided that it would be fun to start a band. Vanderbilt had been bouncing from one lousy job to another when he decided that it would be fun to start a band. The fact that his ability to play the guitar was pretty questionable did nothing to stop him. He managed to convince his friend Bernaerts who had only slightly better skills on the bass to join him. For a lead singer Vanderbilt got his girlfriend Florence Everbrook.
Realizing that they would need a drummer they put out an ad and found Peter G. Eerts, who had played in a few bands but was fairly inexperienced himself. The band at this point was little more than a group that got together a couple of times a week to play covers of their favorite punk tunes. However Vanderbilt would hear about an opportunity to audition for a gig as a cover band a local pub. To the surprise of almost everybody they got the job. This lead to other jobs and the Blind Luck Band was starting to get regular work as a cover band.
While they had started to get paying jobs they were hardly professional musicians, they all had day jobs. It was at this point that Vanderbilt decided that the way forward was to start writing their own songs. This proved to be a challenge since none of them had ever written a song before. But over time Vanderbilt and Bernaerts would start to become fairly proficient as song writers. It was also around this time that they added guitarist Jack Canes to the band. Canes had experience playing with a number of bands and was able to bring a level of skill and professionalism to the band that they had been lacking up to this point.
As they started to play the songs that they had written the Blind Luck Band also started to attract a following, at least around London. They didn't have a lot of fans but the ones that they did have were pretty dedicated and followed them around from show to show. This of course made it easier for them to get booked for more shows and they were able to attract more fans. These days the Blind Luck Band are respected members of the London punk scene and have a following all over England.
